Today is the ... what day?!

I can't believe I saw this post on LinkedIn today.

It reads cheerfully - "Today is World Milk Donation Day!"

When I read that I decided that I was ready to throw a brick at all these "days"!

For two reasons:

  1. Having a "day" for something actually trivializes it, the things that we care for, we should be making it part of our day-to-day lives. Having a Woman's day to think about women is ridiculous. I'd rather have a life designed around being respectful to women and treating them as individuals. When has the last HR actually equalized pay for genders? No idea. But sure they'll line up a cheerful program on "Women's Day" and blow up a sizable corporate budget instead.
  2. There are just too many days!! I can't keep track of it!

So yeah, that's my rant for the day.

Happy World Milk Donation Day to those who celebrate it. sigh.

(Just after I published the article, I found a subtlety that I missed. Its not World Milk Donation Day, Its World "Human" Milk Donation Day. I suppose there'll be another Milk Donation Day for other species facepalm)
